The Braunschweig Region is confirmed as having a top position in pan-European comparisons of the research field. This is both an honour and a duty and it describes the future potential which is central to the development of the region. As the City of Science 2007 (Stadt der Wissenschaft 2007) the City, its sciences and businesses are active in intensifying the networks between partners and the dialogue with culture and society in general. Science and research in the Region are involved in exchanges and closely linked in a fusion of basic scientific research and applied science as well as training in public bodies and private companies.
With the award to one or more people from the science and/or business fields, Braunschweig reinforces the important role of science and research in the future development of the Region. The Braunschweig Research Prize honours internationally outstanding research performed in the fields of technology, the life sciences and cultural sciences and will be awarded for the second time in the year 2009. It is worth 30,000 Euros and is awarded every two years. The prize will be presented during a festive ceremony on the 6th of November 2009.
The Braunschweig Research Prize is sponsored by the City of Braunschweig. Support is jointly provided by the City of Braunschweig and the BraunschweigResearchRegion (Verein ForschungRegion Braunschweig e. V.).
Terms and Conditions
Candidates are not allowed to nominate themselves. A Selection Panel nominates researchers, who have been particularly acclaimed because of the interdisciplinary nature of the results of their research and therefore meet the award criteria of the Braunschweig Research Prize. A Jury, consisting of representatives from the fields of science, business, politics and the media, nominates the winner from the candidates suggested by the Selection Panel.
