The parish church of the New City, the Church of St. Andrew, was built around 1225/30. The church tower of St. Andrew towers above the city at 93 m. During the 16th century, it was one of the highest of any church towers at 122m. The parish church was modeled after the Braunschweig Cathedral (Dom). Originally, it was intended to be a Romanesque basilica. During the 14th century, it was remodeled into a hall church and then underwent many Gothic remodelings. The Church of St. Andrew has been a Protestant Lutheran church since 1528. Within the church, the pulpit, altar, baptismal font and crucifix which were created by TU Professor Jürgen Weber are all worth seeing.
