A biography of an Emperor in the Middle Ages
This book talks about the life of Emperor Otto IV., the only ever Guelph on the emperor’s throne. The red thread is a biography of Otto IV. who as a son of Henry the Lion and Mathilde of England made the dream of a Guelph Emperor come true for a few years. The story starts and ends in Braunschweig and its region, leads through the former Holy Roman Empire and hence through many parts of the Europe of today. The book relates exciting episodes that took place during the long fight for the throne between the Guelphs and the Hohenstaufen dynasty.
