Jakob Kemenate

Not an event centre, not a gallery, not a museum but a little bit of everything. The Jakob-Kemenate (Jacob’s bower) was built in 1250 as a brick building. It is one of the oldest remaining secular buildings in Braunschweig. In 2006, the architect Rainer Ottinger and Jörg Plickat, a sculptor from Kiel, gave it a new and extraordinary appearance by using a design with a rusty metal surface. Today, the Kemenate has become a modern centre for cultural events and a meeting place that can also be rented for special occasions.
