In the past the historical moat was surrounded by many stalls and led a slightly shadowy existence. The stalls were turning their backs on the moat but now this area is transformed into a shining jewel.
The stalls along the moat were repositioned which allows an unobstructed view of the moat. A refined lighting system combined with glass split magically returns water’s sparkle onto the original course of the river Oker. Three rafts allow visitors to stand where the water used to flow and reflective, unobtrusive music enhances the relaxed atmosphere even further.
An additional raft serves as a stage for regular performances by choirs and brass bands playing Christmas music. The musicians of the ‘Städtische Musikschule’ will be giving guest performances. But in this new ‘moat oasis’ you can also look forward to be spoilt with food and drink. This new setup further emphasises the distinctiveness of this Christmas Market. A wooden boardwalk along the bank with a width of 3 metres and a length of 50 metres and 2 entrances to the moat with stairs allows visitors easy access to this area.
