Braunschweig Christmas Market 2012

From November 28th till December 29th

Every year, the squares in front of the castle, the cathedral and the town hall in Braunschweig are transformed into a beautiful Christmas market with a magical atmosphere. With its 300-year tradition, the Braunschweig Christmas Market is one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Northern Germany. From November 28 until December 29 some 140 artisans and vendors offer specialities of the region and from around the world: wooden toys, Christmas decorations, candles, pottery and glasswork, not to mention all sorts of Christmas delicacies.

Choirs, drama groups and musical ensembles create a colourful cultural programme. Fairy tale readings, a puppet theatre and the Christmas workshop are highlights for every child.

Opening times
The Braunschweig Christmas Market is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Monday to Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays and holidays,
closed only on December 24 and 25

Various concerts in the Brunswick Cathedral during the week from December 15th until December 23th.

Remake of the historical moat

A refined lighting system combined with glass split magically returns water’s sparkle onto the original course of the river Oker. Three rafts allow visitors to stand where the water used to flow and reflective, unobtrusive music enhances the relaxed atmosphere even further. more...
