Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg (1797–1871)

Until his emigration in 1850, the living environment for Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg (1797–1871) consisted of the Harz mountains. Here, he was born and culturally shaped, here he founded his family and took his first steps into the craft of piano-making. The current Eco-political state of the region however did not enable him to successfully engage in his profession; existential worries dominated everyday life for the large Steinweg family. At over 50 years of age, Steinweg, like so many others at the time, finally decided to head out and try his luck in the New World.
